Box Lake is a glacial tarn in the Ruby Mountains, in Elko County in the northeastern part of the state of Nevada. The Ruby Mountains comprise one of the many mountain ranges of the Great Basin in the western United States. Elko County is located in the western US state of Nevada. Along with Snow Lake, it is one of the sources of the stream which flows down Box Canyon. After exiting the mountains it merges with other streams to form the South Fork of the Humboldt River. The South Fork of the Humboldt River has its origins in a fan-shaped group of canyons draining the western slopes of the Ruby Mountains in northeastern Nevada
