History

The town was founded in the 1830's to service travellers along the new road to Bathurst, which opened in 1832[1]. Bathurst is a regional centre in the state of New South Wales, Australia approximately 200km west of Sydney and is the seat of the Bathurst Regional Council The town was the first settlement in the valley and pre-dated Lithgow by 40 years. The railway opened in 1869[2], and was electrified in the 1950s, although passenger services no longer service Bowenfels station. The Main Western Railway is a major railway in New South Wales, Australia. Bowenfels is a disused railway station on the Main Western line of New South Wales, Australia.
