Bovine herpesvirus 2
Virus classification
Group: Group I (dsDNA)
Family: Herpesviridae
Genus: Simplexvirus
Species: Bovine herpesvirus 2 (BHV-2)

Bovine herpesvirus 2 (BHV-2) is a virus of the family Herpesviridae that causes two diseases in cattle, bovine mammillitis and pseudo-lumpyskin disease. Virus classification involves naming and placing Viruses into a taxonomic system A DNA virus is a Virus that has DNA as its Genetic material and replicates using a DNA-dependent DNA polymerase. The Herpesviridae are a large family of DNA viruses that cause diseases in animals including humans Herpes simplex is a Viral disease caused by Herpes simplex viruses both herpes simplex virus 1 (HSV-1 and herpes simplex virus 2 (HSV-2 cause herpes simplex A virus (from the Latin virus meaning Toxin or Poison) is a sub-microscopic infectious agent that is unable The Herpesviridae are a large family of DNA viruses that cause diseases in animals including humans Cattle, colloquially referred to as cows, are domesticated Ungulates a member of the Subfamily Bovinae of the family BHV-2 is similar in structure to human herpes simplex virus. Herpes simplex virus 1 and 2 ( HSV-1 and HSV-2) are two species of the herpes virus family Herpesviridae, which cause infections The strain of BHV-2 that causes pseudo-lumpyskin disease is also known as the Allerton virus. [1]

Pseudo-lumpyskin disease is found most commonly in southern Africa. It was originally discovered in South Africa where a similar but more serious disease caused by a poxvirus, lumpyskin disease, is also prevalent. The Republic of South Africa (also known by other official names) is a country located at the southern tip of the continent of Africa Poxviruses (members of the family Poxviridae) are viruses that can as a family infect both Vertebrate and Invertebrate animals Lumpyskin disease is a disease caused by a Virus of the family Poxviridae, also known as Neethling virus. Symptoms include fever and skin nodules on the face, back, and perineum. In Human anatomy, the perineum is generally defined as the surface region in both males and females between the Pubic symphysis and the Coccyx. The disease heals within a few weeks. Bovine mammillitis is characterized by lesions restricted to the teats and udder. Teat is an alternative word for the Nipple of a Mammary gland, in humans referred to as a Breast, from which Milk is discharged An Udder is the mammary organ of Female Cattle and some other Mammals including Goats and Sheep. BHV-2 probably spreads through an arthropod vector,[2] but can also be spread through milkers and milking machines. Arthropods are Animals belonging to the Phylum Arthropoda (from Greek ἄρθρον arthron, " Joint " In Epidemiology, a vector is an Organism that does not cause Disease itself but which transmits Infection by conveying Pathogens from A dairy is a facility for the extraction and processing of animal Milk &mdashmostly from goats or cows, but also from buffalo, Sheep [1]
