Bocchus II was king of Mauretania. In Antiquity Mauretania was originally an independent Berber kingdom on the Mediterranean coast of North Africa (named after the Son of Sosus of Mauretania (Mastanesosus), who was dead in 49 B. C. , in the early years of Bocchus reign, Mauretania was jointly ruled between Bocchus and his younger brother Bogud, with Bocchus ruling east of the Mulucha River and his brother west.
