Croal transferred to Chelsea from Hamilton Academical sometime in 1914. [2]. He was a member of the Chelsea side that reached the FA Cup in 1915. The 1915 FA Cup Final took place on 24 April 1915 and was contested by Sheffield United and Chelsea.

He made a total of 307 appearances for Chelsea and scored a total of 32 goals. [3].
