Gilder was born in Corvallis, Oregon and attended Corvallis High School. Corvallis (kɔrˈvælɪs is a City located in central western Oregon, United States. Corvallis High School, commonly shortened to CHS, is a public high school that is located in Corvallis Oregon in the United States. He later attended Arizona State University and walked on to the golf team there, later becoming the 1973 Western Athletic Conference individual golf champion.
