A binary large object, also known as a blob, is a collection of binary data stored as a single entity in a database management system. A database management system ( DBMS) is Computer software designed for the purpose of managing Databases DBMSes may use any of a variety of Data models Blobs are typically images, audio or other multimedia objects, though sometimes binary executable code is stored as a blob. An image (from Latin imago) or picture is an artifact usually two-dimensional that has a similar appearance to some subject &mdashusually Sound' is Vibration transmitted through a Solid, Liquid, or Gas; particularly sound means those vibrations composed of Frequencies Multimedia is media and content that utilizes a combination of different content forms. In open source culture, binary blob is a pejorative term for an object file loaded into the kernel of a free or open source Database support for blobs is not universal.

Blobs were originally just amorphous chunks of data invented by Jim Starkey at DEC, who describes them as "the thing that ate Cincinnati, Cleveland, or whatever". Jim Starkey is a database architect who developed InterBase, the first relational database to support multi-versioning, the blob column type (see The true story of Digital Equipment Corporation was a pioneering American company in the Computer industry [1] Later, Terry McKiever, a marketing person for Apollo felt that it needed to be an acronym and invented the backronym Basic Large Object. A backronym (or bacronym) is a Phrase that is constructed "after the fact" from a previously existing word or Abbreviation, the abbreviation Then Informix invented an alternative backronym, Binary Large Object. Informix is a family of Relational database management system (RDBMS products by IBM. Today many people believe that blob was originally intended as an acronym for something.

The data type and definition was introduced to describe data not originally defined in traditional computer database systems but became possible when disk space became cheap.

This definition gained popularity with IBM's DB2. International Business Machines Corporation abbreviated IBM and nicknamed "Big Blue", is a multinational Computer Technology DB2 is one of IBM 's families of Relational database management system (RDBMS (or as IBM now calls it data server software products within IBM's broader Information
