He was born William S. Zmitrowicz in Bridgeport, Connecticut, the son of Anna (née Wojna) and Stanley William Zmitrowicz, a tool and die maker. [1] Bill is a graduate of the University of Bridgeport. He is married to Shaw Purnell and has a son, Alexander John (who is a BFA major at Otterbein College in Westerville, Ohio) They also have a daughter Maya Christina Smitrovich, four years younger, an aspiring model.
