Ben soon discovers that Jacen was behind the death of his mother Mara Jade, and starts to form a plan to kill him. Ben's plan leads to the death of Cal Omas, and Luke's decision in withdrawing the Jedi from the battle at Kuat. Ben waited for the chance to kill Jacen when the Anakin Solo was firing turbolaser strikes on Kashyyyk causing planet wide forest fires. Ben first strikes Commander Twizzl cutting half way through his torso. Ben attacked Darth Caedus (Jacen as a Sith Lord) but to no avail, awaking to being tortured in the Embrace of Pain. Luke, after faking his death, found his son Ben, and was forced into an epic duel with Jacen. Ben escaped the device, claiming it was his right to kill Jacen, plunging a vibrodagger between his shoulder blades. Luke, not wanting to make the same mistake with Lumiya's vengeance killing, left Jacen. Ben left with his father after hearing Alema may have been responsible for Mara's death.
