History

Belmont station opened in 1970 as part of an extension of the Blue line to Jefferson Park on the Kennedy Expressway. History The original Jefferson Park Station was built in the 19th Century by the Chicago and North Western Railway at ground level and was raised above ground in 1958 The Kennedy Expressway is a long highway that travels northwest from the Chicago Loop to O'Hare International Airport. The station is similar in design as the previous station, Logan Square, as an underground, island platform station. Unlike Logan Square, Belmont has only one exit.
