A bajulus was an officer in the court of the Greek emperors. The term ancient Greece refers to the period of Greek history lasting from the Greek Dark Ages ca The bajuli were the preceptors of the emperors, whereof there were different degrees: the Grand Bajulus, and the bajuli who were the sub-preceptors. A Preceptor is a teacher responsible to uphold a certain law or tradition a Precept. The first officer who bore this title was Antiochus, in the time of the younger Theodosius. Antiochus is the name of thirteen kings of the Seleucid Empire: Antiochus I Soter Antiochus II Theos Antiochus Hence the Italians use the word Bajulus of the Kingdom in the same sense as the Protector of the Kingdom in England.
