Asparagaceae is the botanical name of a family of flowering plants. Plants are living Organisms belonging to the kingdom Plantae. - Asparagaceae sensu lato ("in the wider sense"), that is including all the plants listed in the second option.
- Asparagaceae sensu stricto ("in the strict sense"), consisting of very few genera (notably Asparagus), but nevertheless totalling a few hundred species. The Genus Asparagus in the plant family Asparagaceae comprises up to 300 Species. This circumscription assumes that the following are recognized as separate:
- family Agavaceae
- family Aphyllanthaceae
- family Hesperocallidaceae
- family Hyacinthaceae
- family Laxmanniaceae
- family Ruscaceae
- family Themidaceae
These families were also recognized in the APG system, of 1998, except families Hesperocallidaceae and Ruscaceae which are 'new'. Agavaceae is a family of Plants that includes many well-known Desert and dry zone types such as the Agave, Yucca, and Joshua Hesperocallis is a Genus of Flowering plants that includes a single species Hesperocallis undulata, the desert lily Hyacinthaceae is the Botanical name of a family of Flowering plants. Laxmanniaceae is the Botanical name of a family of Flowering plants. Ruscaceae is a family of Flowering plants in the order Asparagales that includes several genera previously included in the Liliaceae, for example in Themidaceae is the Botanical name of a family of Flowering plants. Relatively few publications have adopted the APG II's broader circumscription of Asparagaceae, with most adopting the narrower circumscription and recognizing the segregate families.
