Armathia (Greek: Αρμάθια) is a Greek island belonging to the Dodecanese group in the eastern Aegean sea. The Dodecanese ( Greek Δωδεκάνησα Dodekánisa 'twelve islands' are a group of 12 larger plus 150 smaller Greek islands in the Aegean Etymology In ancient times there were various explanations for the name Aegean. It is part of the municipality of Kasos. Kasos (also Kassos; Greek: Κάσος; Italian: Caso) is a Greek Island municipality in the In the census of 1951 there were 8 recorded inhabitants but it has since become uninhabited. At its peak it sustained a community of over 100 which were mainly involved in mining the rich deposits of gypsum intended for export. Gypsum is a very soft Mineral composed of Calcium sulfate dihydrate with the Chemical formula Ca[[sulfur S]] O 4·2 It is now a tourist destination for day trippers from neighbouring developed islands. The recently constructed observatory attracts wildlife observers.
