Arena rock, also called stadium rock or anthem rock, is a loosely-defined term describing an era of rock music. Rock music is a genre of Popular music often though not necessarily employing Electric guitar, Bass guitar, and Drums. It was spawned from heavy metal, hard rock, and progressive rock in the 70s by bands such as Styx and Queen. Arena rock takes its sound from hard rock, heavy metal, and progressive rock. Hard rock (also referred to as heavy rock) is a variation of Rock music which has its earliest roots in mid-1960s garage and Psychedelic rock Progressive rock (often shortened to " progressive " " prog " or " prog rock " is a form of Rock music that evolved [1] Arena rock is "heavy",[1] but it is not as hard and is "more commercially oriented" than other subgenres of hard rock and heavy metal. Arena rock's origins can be traced to the late 1960s, with bands such as The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin and The Who.
