Saint Antipas is referred to in the Book of Revelation (Revelation 2:13) as the "faithful martyr" of Pergamon. The Book of Revelation, also called Revelation to John, Apocalypse of John ( pronounced, from the Ἀποκάλυψις Ἰωάννου According to Christian tradition, John the Apostle ordained Antipas as bishop of the Pergamon during the reign of the Roman emperor Domitian. The term martyr ( Greek μάρτυς martys "witness" is most commonly used today to describe an individual who sacrifices their life (or personal freedom 92 AD by burning in a brazen bull-shaped altar used for casting out demons worshiped by the local population. The brazen bull, or the Sicilian bull, is an execution/torture device designed in Ancient Greece.
There is a tradition of oil ("manna of the saints") being secreted from the relics of Saint Antipas. [3] On the calendars of Eastern Christianity, the feast day of Antipas is April 11. Families of churches Eastern Christians have a shared tradition but they became divided ( Schism) during the early centuries of Christianity in disputes about Events 491 - Flavius Anastasius becomes Byzantine Emperor, with the name of Anastasius I.
