Amputee Soccer Championship, Central America
One of the tragic legacies of conflicts in Central America in the decade of the 1980's was a large number of unmapped land mines, especially along the Nicaraguan-El Salvadorian border. Amputation is the removal of a body extremity by trauma or Surgery. To bring attention to the problem, and to assist in the rehabilitation of amputees, several international "Amputee Soccer Championships" were organized in this period.
