Schurz bought The American News from The McClatchy Company in June 2006 after McClatchy acquired Knight Ridder, the American News’ previous owner. The McClatchy Company is an American Publishing company based in Sacramento California, that operates a number of Newspapers and Websites For the unrelated television series see Knight Rider. On June 29, 2007, Publisher Jerome Ferson announced he was leaving the paper for the Lakeland Ledger. The Ledger is a daily Newspaper serving Lakeland Florida and the Polk County area
