Allanon is described as seven feet tall with a booming voice and a hooded cowl which covers his "disturbingly penetrating" eyes. Because of his Druid nature, Allanon is very secretive and appears only when needed. He is able to considerably lengthen his lifespan through a form of suspended animation called the Druid Sleep. Suspended animation is the slowing of life processes by external means without termination He often calls on the aid of the Ohmsford family, the descendants of the house of Shannara. Allanon is never completely honest with his companions and speaks only if the information is necessary or if the situation calls for it. His few words and enigmatic nature results in him being isolated by his companions.
