Alfred Celestin Cogniaux (April 7, 1841 - April 15, 1916) was a Belgian botanist. The Kingdom of Belgium is a Country in northwest Europe. It is a founding member of the European Union and hosts its headquarters as well as those Botany, plant science(s, phytology, or plant biology is a branch of Biology and is the scientific study of plant Life Amongst other plants, the genus Neocogniauxia of orchids is named after him. Neocogniauxia is a Genus of orchids (family Orchidaceae) consisting of two species in the Greater Antilles.
In 1916 his enormous private herbarium was acquired by the National Botanic Garden of Belgium. National Botanic Garden of Belgium is located in the domain of Bouchout ( Bouchout Castle) in the village of Meise, north of Brussels.
