Black was born in Edinburgh, the son of a builder, and educated at the Royal High School. Edinburgh ( ˈɛdɪnb(ərə Dùn Èideann) is the Capital of Scotland and is its second largest city after Glasgow. Adam Black was twice Lord Provost of Edinburgh, and represented the city in parliament from 1856 to 1865. Edinburgh was a Constituency of the House of Commons of the Parliament of Great Britain from 1708 to 1801 and of the Parliament of the United He retired from business in 1865, and died on the 24th of January 1874. He was succeeded by his sons, who removed their business in 1895 to London. There is a bronze statue of Adam Black in East Princes Street Gardens, Edinburgh. Princes Street Gardens is a public park in the centre of Edinburgh, Scotland, in the shadow of Edinburgh Castle.
