Acceptance, in spirituality, mindfulness, and human psychology, usually refers to the experience of a situation without an intention to change that situation. Spirituality, in a narrow sense concerns itself with matters of the Spirit, a concept closely tied to religious belief and Faith, a transcendent reality Mindfulness is concentrated awareness of one's thoughts actions or motivations Human beings, humans or man (Origin 1590–1600 L homō man OL hemō the earthly one (see Humus Psychology (from Greek grc ψῡχή psȳkhē, "breath life soul" and grc -λογία -logia) is an Academic and Indeed, acceptance is often suggested when a situation is both disliked and unchangeable, or when change may be possible only at great cost or risk. Acceptance may imply only a lack of outward, behavioral attempts at possible change, but the word is also used more specifically for a felt or hypothesized cognitive or emotional state. Cognition is a concept used in different ways by different disciplines but is generally accepted to mean the process of awareness or thought An emotion is a mental and physiological state associated with a wide variety of feelings thoughts and behaviours Thus someone may decide to take no action against a situation and yet be said to have not accepted it.

Acceptance is contrasted with resistance, but that term has strong political and psychoanalytic connotations not applicable in many contexts. Psychoanalysis is a body of ideas developed by Austrian physician Sigmund Freud and his followers which is devoted to the study of human psychological functioning and behavior By groups and by individuals, acceptance can be of various events and conditions in the world; individuals may also accept elements of their own thoughts, feelings, and personal histories. For example, psychotherapeutic treatment of a person with depression or anxiety could involve fostering acceptance either for whatever personal circumstances may give rise to those feelings or for the feelings themselves. Psychotherapy is an Interpersonal, relational intervention used by trained psychotherapists to aid clients in problems of living In the fields of Psychology and Psychiatry, the terms depression or depressed refer to both expected and pathologically chronic or severe Anxiety is a physiological and psychological state characterized by Cognitive, Somatic, Emotional and Behavioral components (Psychotherapy could also involve lessening an individual's acceptance of various situations. )

Notions of acceptance are prominent in many faiths and meditation practices. For example, Buddhism's first noble truth, "Life is suffering", invites people to accept that suffering is a natural part of life. Buddhism is a family of beliefs and practices Background Why the Buddha is said to have taught in this way is illuminated by the social context of the time in which he lived Suffering, or pain, is an individual's basic Affective experience of unpleasantness and aversion associated with harm or threat of harm

Minority groups in society often describe their goal as "acceptance", wherein the majority will not challenge the minority's full participation in society. A majority may be said (at best) to "tolerate" minorities when it confines their participation to certain aspects of society.
