Collingwood again finished on the losing team with Richmond winning by 81 points. It remained the greatest margin in Grand Final history until Hawthorn surpassed it in the 1988 decider. The 1988 VFL Grand Final took place on September 24, 1988 at the Melbourne Cricket Ground between VFL clubs Hawthorn and Melbourne Richmond have not won a premiership since.
